I was in Scotland with D. We were visiting his family who live in Northern Ireland but have an apartment in Scotland. On Valentine's Day, we head to the local town and I think he suddenly realises what day it is. The red heart displays must have tipped him off. ;)
I have never been a fan of Valentine's Day. Going as far in my teens to dress in black on that day. But he turned to me and said, "are we doing something to celebrate today?" I suddenly panicked. I wondered if we should.
I think he sensed my uncertainty and panic. (It could have been my sudden loss of words) He said,"um...I am going to wander around the town. I will meet you in the butchers in 15 minutes". Ok, fine. But now I needed to get him something too.

Luckily, we were in one of those stereotypical small Scottish towns where there is the butchers, the fish mongers, the green grocerers (veg), etc. I literally went to the Cheese shop where they sell - guess what - cheese. I bought him a smoked cheese and another flavoured with whiskey and some whole grain crackers and quickly shoved them in my purse. What?! He likes cheese and I panicked. It is romantic.

In the evening, we are at his parents and we shower and get dressed to go out for dinner. He hands me half a dozen roses. I hand him cheese and biscuits. I think it is a fair trade.
