I feel very emotional today. I feel that nervous energy as if any minute I might break into crying. I am so elated about the election of Barack Obama as the next President of the United States.
I am happy for all that comes with it. The eloquence, determination, aspiration, new direction, social cohesion, faith and inspiration. But the most important and moving thing for me was my fellow Americans. They came out to vote. They stood in lines, they discussed the issues, and they dared to use their vote for something rather than against something.
Today, I am proud to be an American. And I feel the world is proud of us too. I don't know how long this will last but for now, it truly feels like we are the greatest Democracy on earth.
FORMER SOUTH AFRICAN PRESIDENT NELSON MANDELA was quoted as saying, "Your victory has demonstrated that no person anywhere in the world should not dare to dream of wanting to change the world for a better place... We wish you strength and fortitude in the challenging days and years that lie ahead."
