Deedle, deedle, deedle, ...
Well, I survived Northern Ireland. Actually, the clan were very nice. Perhaps a little too nice as I feel like the church, separate bedrooms and no cussing rules are a bit harsh for an old lady who is stuck in her ways like me.

Still, it was a nice time and the nieces seemed to like me.

Deedle, deedle, deedle, deedle.

Mass. House votes to let out-of-state gays marry

BOSTON—The Massachusetts House voted Tuesday to repeal a 1913 law that had been used to block gay marriages involving out-of-state couples, all but assuring the state will allow same-sex couples to wed regardless of where they live.

The House vote came after the state Senate voted for the repeal earlier this month, and Gov. Deval Patrick has said he will sign the bill. Tuesday's vote was 119-36, after one member on each side of the question was allowed to vote after time expired in the initial roll call. The measure required one more procedural vote in each chamber before being forwarded to the governor.

Yup, heading off to meet the family this weekend. Dave has arranged for his bi-annual visit to Northern Ireland and he asked me to go with him. Hmmm... these are the things we do for the people we care about but I must admit I am shitting myself.

Recount a snippet of conversation from second date:
H: So how many girls have you brought home from London to meet your parents?
D: None
H: What do you mean?
D: What do you mean?
H: Well, have you ever brought a girl home to meet your family before? How did it go?
D: I have never brought a girl home to meet my parents before. Since moving to London, none of my relationships have ever been that serious.
H: But you have had girlfriends since moving to London?
D: Yeah, girls I have dated but nothing serious. If I brought a girl home, it would have to be serious.
H: What, if you brought a girl home to meet your family, it would be making a statment?
D: Yes
H: Oh, right. I see.

Fast forward four months. FOUR MONTHS!!

D: I am going to Northern Ireland in early July. I would like you to come with me.
H: Do you think it is too soon?
D: Do you think it is too soon? (I notice we tend to repeat a lot)
H: I am not sure, you said if you brought a girl home it would make a statement.
D: Did I?
H: Yes, on our second date.
D: Oh, I guess it would.
H: So, you are saying something about our relationship by wanting me to meet your family?
D: I am going to Northern Ireland and I want you to come with me.
H: Oh, okay. (H breathes a sigh of relief)
D: It is serious.
H: Oh

So, away we go on Friday night, Fourth of July as well. UGH!

Terrified. My stomach hurts.

My birthday was this week. Another year older but it passed without hysteria, so that is nice. Saturday night was a fun evening with people on Brick Lane. The theme was hat and wig. I wore a wig and fooled people.

(Photos to be attached)

Monday, the actual day, was drinks with Miranda and Esther followed by a lovely dinner at Medcalf with Filippo and Dave. Mmm...oysters.

No words of wisdom, no insight, just happiness. That is enough, I suppose.
